about Us

hello there! We’re Jenny and John,
the founders of Trav3ln LLC (and this website Traveling In Focus) and your trusty guides to just about anywhere your passport wants to take you. And what’s on our bucket list, you ask? Oh, only everything. Seriously, our wanderlust is so off the charts that it threatens the structural integrity of our luggage. But hey, we’re not mad about it.
A few things you should know about us? We’re total shutterbugs. You’ll find us snapping away at everything from a perfectly plated croissant in Paris to a sun-soaked street cat in Santorini. If it’s remotely photogenic, it’s finding its way to our camera roll.
We also have this quirky little habit of turning relaxation into a full-blown obsession with observation. Replace “Netflix and Chill” with “Stare & Stalk (Nature, Not People).” From elephants doing their thing on the African plains to seagulls reenacting battles over breadcrumbs on a random beach… if it’s living, breathing drama, we’re hooked. And wildlife adventures definitely top our must-do list.
But don’t get us wrong, urban adventures have our hearts, too. There’s just something intoxicating about the chaos of sprawling cities, the buzz of energy, and the sheer number of coffee shops per block (seriously, how do they all survive?).
Basically, as you can see, we love all adventures (great and small). From national parks to UNESCO heritage sites to bustling cities, we’re happy spending time anywhere.
About Jenny
At just 13, I kicked off my globe-trotting career with a jaunt down to Australia and New Zealand. It was all kangaroos and kiwis from there. The next year, me and my Granny (yep, Granny), made a whirlwind tour of a dozen European countries.
I’ve gallivanted around 6 of the 7 continents, with the penguins of Antarctica giving me the cold shoulder. And South Africa is my numero uno country, hands down. Nothing beats the thrill of wildlife photography there, Africa’s the Oscars of the animal kingdom after all.
As for credentials, I’ve got two college degrees under my belt: one in “Counting Beans” (also known as Accounting) and another one in “Freezing Time” (AKA Photography). Don’t judge, but I might have undergone a mini identity crisis when I swapped my CPA badge for a camera.
Oh, and just so you know, I’m a hopeless Type-A obsessed with order, planning, and scheduling. Our planned itinerary is my bible when I’m on the road.
About John
Growing up, my family was more “camp in the woods” than “camp in the living room.” This fostered in me a love of adventuring across the nooks and crannies of Uncle Sam’s backyard.
I’ve racked up my fair share of passport stamps, having traversed across a whopping 5 out of 7 continents. (Antarctica and Australia, you’re next on my hit list). The crown jewel of my travels? Scotland, hands down. We toured the stunning countryside in a camper van, like rockstars… but with more sheep and less groupies.
On the career front, I’m a bit of a jack-of-all-trades in the IT world. My certification in Network Engineering has seen me dabbling in everything from troubleshooting your uncle’s computer to ensuring your fast-food drive-thru order doesn’t end up being a game of Chinese whispers. If it beeps, I can fix it.
Personality-wise, I’m as type-B as they come, preferring the thrills of spontaneous exploration over regimented itineraries when I travel. So it’s always a give and take when the wife and I travel together.
Some Of Our Favorite Adventures
📍 Strutting like a boss while walking alongside a rhino in the wilds of South Africa 🦏
📍 Partying like it’s 1999 at Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee shindig in London
📍 Playing hide and seek with pink dolphins along the riverbank in the Amazon Rainforest
📍 Being wannabe detectives on the shores of Loch Ness in Scotland, with Nessie as our elusive “whodunit” 🐉
📍 Turning into amateur zoologists while spotting our first wild dogs and a serval in the Okavango Delta (on our 4th African safari, no biggie)
📍 Riding a motorbike over the world’s longest bamboo bridge in Kampong Cham, Cambodia
📍 Seeing a bull moose up close in Jasper National Park
Our Story
Once upon a time, back in the glorious year of 2001, a couple of starry-eyed go-getters (yep, that’s us, Jenny and John) tied the knot and joined the grown-up world of full-time jobs. Exciting, right? Well, not so much when our lofty travel dreams were crammed into limited vacation days.
But did we sulk? Nope. We became masters at squeezing adventure into long weekends, holidays, and our precious 2 weeks of vacation time each year… because sleep is overrated when the world is calling your name.
For close to two decades, we soaked up experiences in every corner of the Earth. We partied with locals in Thailand for the King’s birthday, crashed (okay fine, attended) the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in London, kissed the Blarney Stone, and felt small standing before Christ the Redeemer in Brazil.
Oh, and let’s not forget road-tripping across the U.S., marveling at places like Utah’s national parks. We share a deep appreciation for wildlife, too. Whether it’s feeding monkeys in the Amazon, spotting big cats in South Africa, or attempting casual standoffs with moose in Canada. Not to brag, but we even swam with sharks in the Bahamas.
Fast forward to 2020, and cue the pandemic freak show that made us rethink everything. And not only did the world lock down, but we hit the big 4-0 milestone. Staring down midlife, we asked ourselves one big, scary question. Are we just “doing life,” or are we really living?
So we decided to change our lives, and swapped the cubicle hustle for a life full of bird songs, fresh air, and endless exploration. Starting out in Jenny’s parents’ RV, we tested the waters during an epic winter in Tombstone, Arizona. And it turns out, RV life suited us better than office life, so we upgraded to our own fifth wheel and haven’t looked back since.
Whether it’s road-tripping the U.S. or jetting off to Botswana, our motto these days is simple: save money, adventure, repeat. Life’s too short to wait for “someday,” so we’re living our endless vacation now. And guess what? It’s the best decision we’ve ever made.
Traveling In Focus blog
This grand idea has been brewing in our minds for eons while we were shackled to our 9-5 jobs. But alas, something always came up, and we never quite found the time to get it off the ground. Now, as we have busted out of the employment chains and decided to travel till we drop, this blog has shot up to the top of our to-do list.
Our mission (if we so choose to do it)?
Sharing all the juicy details that make travel easier, more fun, and a whole lot more memorable. We’re talking about everything from nailing that perfect airline deal and packing like a pro, to inspiration on incredible places that you will definitely be adding to your bucket list.
And whether you’re the type who practically lives out of a suitcase year-round or prefers to keep your adventures closer to home, we’re here to help you make the most of every moment. Because no matter how or where you go, the world is just waiting to be explored… and we can’t wait to inspire your next great escape!
Our Other Passion
If you don’t know, John is a huge craft beer fan. We have a second website solely dedicated to beer and breweries around the world. If that interests you, we would love you to visit Beer Decoded.
We’d love to hear from you
